Migrant Workers Scammed in Canada’s Foreign Worker Program

Would you gamble your life savings for a shot at a better life? For millions of migrant workers flocking to Canada, this is not a hypothetical issue. It’s their brutal reality.

In a bombshell report, Bloomberg revealed how scammers exploit thousands of newcomers to Canada. They take tens of thousands of dollars for jobs that barely meet basic expectations. These migrants, desperate for a fresh start, believe Canada offers high salaries, top education, and safety. What they don’t expect, however, is that the very system they trust will end up taking advantage of them.

A Dream Turned Nightmare for Migrant Workers

The surge in immigration since the pandemic has, in turn, brought this dark side of the foreign worker program into sharp focus. One such victim, Navdeep Singh, is a glaring example of how this system is failing vulnerable newcomers. Singh, a 39-year-old accountant from India, and his wife emptied their life savings and borrowed money to gather $40,000, which they handed over to WWICS Group, an immigration consultancy with offices in Ontario and Punjab, India. The promise? A better life in Canada with a stable job.

However, what Singh got was, unfortunately, nothing short of a nightmare. Instead of the prosperous future he had dreamed of, he found himself working as a cashier at a cannabis shop in Edmonton—far above his qualifications. Just days into the job, the employer fired Singh with no explanation, forcing him to return to India empty-handed.

False Promises, Harsh Realities: The Plight of Migrants

Singh suspects that his entire experience was part of a larger scheme involving the employer and WWICS—a coordinated effort to exploit desperate migrants for financial gain. Sadly, Singh is not alone. Countless others have fallen for similar promises, only to end up trapped in low-level jobs, far from the prosperous life they envisioned.

This scandal highlights the dangers migrant workers face when trusting a system built on deceit instead of opportunity. Moreover, with immigration rates soaring, Canada’s foreign worker program is under intense scrutiny. The question remains: How many more innocent people will fall victim before real change occurs?

For those like Navdeep Singh, it’s not just money that’s been stolen—it’s their hopes, dreams, and dignity. It’s time to question why this is happening and the bigger factors behind it.
