The Star-Studded Charity Basketball Game, now in its tenth year, will
Feature NFL Greats Terrell Owens, Brian Westbrook, Larry Fitzgerald, Jerry
Porter, and Recording Artists Ne-Yo, Tank and Baby Bash
Ticket Prices Start at $10
PHOENIX, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On the eve of Super Bowl
XLII(TM), top names in sports and entertainment will come together at
Arizona State University, not just to celebrate the "big game," but also to
help a group of children across the country who desperately need their
support.
Gridiron Celebrity Hoops--now in its tenth year--has become one of the
most anticipated events of Super Bowl weekend. As the first and only
charity basketball game to become officially sanctioned by the National
Football League, this star-studded event offers a chance for NFL athletes
to turn their attention off the football field, and onto important
children's issues.
Hollywood 'A-listers', streetballers, NFL mascots and cheerleaders will
join professional athletes in an effort to help eradicate child abuse and
neglect by promoting quality foster care and adoption programs.
Suiting up for this year's game are Terrell Owens (Dallas Cowboys),
Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia Eagles), Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona
Cardinals), Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) and Antoine Bethea
(Indianapolis Colts), Jive recording artist Tank, Arista Latin recording
artist Baby Bash, actor Christian Keyes, and ESPN's City Slam Dunk Champion
Skywalker, among others.
Half-time performances will feature American Music Award winner and
multi-platinum recording artist, Ne-Yo. The eight-time Grammy Nominee, best
known for his #1 single "Because of You", has shown his dedication to
at-risk and disadvantaged youth through his work in group homes with the
Compound Foundation.
Part of the evening's proceeds will benefit Junior Achievers Motivated
to Succeed USA (Junior Achievers), whose mission is to enrich the quality
of life of abused, abandoned and neglected youths who have been placed
within the foster care system. Since its inception, Junior Achievers has
been 100% dedicated to caring for children in need. When parents are unable
or unwilling to keep children safe, Junior Achievers works with various
family agencies to provide a safe haven and family-like environment. All
young people need a stable, nurturing family and other enduring connections
to grow and develop to their full potential. Each year, Junior Achievers
selects an organization in the Super Bowl host city that serves the city's
abused and neglected children. Hundreds of these important and special kids
will attend and participate at this year's event as ball boys/girls, water
boys/girls and youth ambassadors.
Gridiron Celebrity Hoops has raised over $500,000 for organizations and
programs that share Junior Achiever's mission to raise awareness of the
child abuse epidemic and enhance the day-to-day living of extraordinary
children in crisis who are facing many tough issues and life struggles.
"We want the entire diverse communities of Arizona to feel invited and
welcomed to our event." says event creator and producer, Juli M. Wyatt of
Jam Sports & Entertainment. "We have priced our tickets affordably so that
parents feel they can bring their whole family. Our event is exciting
because fans can receive free autographs, and photographs from NFL players,
actors and music artists, and be a part of the fun, sights and sounds of
Super Bowl XLII. In celebration of our 10th year anniversary, we have
tickets as low as $10." Wyatt adds, "We have provided over 2,000
complimentary tickets to youths from foster care organizations, Indian
reservations, and youth groups. We are honored to have them attend as our
special VIP guests."
The family-friendly hoops event will include an explosive slam dunk
contest with world-renowned streetballers, a pre-game kickoff performance,
an entertaining half-time show, interactive games, and chances to win Super
Bowl XLII tickets and NFL merchandise.
To commemorate the 10 year anniversary of Gridiron Celebrity Hoops,
Dallas Cowboys' Terrell Owens will be honored with the Jam Sports Icon
Award for his participation in all 10 Gridiron Celebrity Hoops challenges.
Gridiron Celebrity Hoops became an official activity at Super Bowl
XXXIII (Miami). Previous games have featured many NFL players including
Vince Young (Titans), Santana Moss (Redskins) Ray Lewis (Ravens), Jason
Taylor (Dolphins), Tony Gonzalez (Chiefs), LaDainian Tomlinson (Chargers),
